Additional Information about our Dental Implants in Adelaide

At West Beach Dental, many of our patients are pleasantly surprised to discover that undergoing a dental implant procedure/treatment is a more efficient and straightforward experience than they initially thought.

The duration of your dental implant treatment with us varies based on several factors. These include:

  1. The number of implants you require,
  2. Whether additional treatments are necessary, such as bone grafting, tooth extractions, or a sinus lift.

To ensure the success of your dental implant at West Beach Dental, there are some key requirements.

Firstly, it’s crucial to have healthy gums and a robust jawbone. Without these, the implant may not fully integrate with your jawbone, risking the success of the procedure.

Secondly, maintaining your implant is vital. While dental implants are resistant to decay, regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups at West Beach Dental are essential to prevent gum diseases that could affect your implant.

Thirdly, it’s important to understand that, like any medical procedure, dental implants come with potential risks, all be it small risks. These include the chance of infection or other complications. To learn more about this please call our dentists or discuss this in the free dental implant consultation that we are providing patients in 2024.

Some clients inquire about the possibility of completing their dental implant in one visit. Typically, the complete treatment process at West Beach Dental, from the initial consultation to the final abutment placement, spans approximately six months.

However, depending on individual circumstances, this period can extend up to twelve months for the final tooth placement.

At West Beach Dental, we are committed to providing a personalised and comfortable experience for each step of your dental implant procedure.

If you have any further questions about dental implants give our clinic a call or one of the additional questions you may have, might be answered below.

Yes! Here at West Beach Dental we have all the technology to be able to place your implant in the dental chair.

Dental implant surgery is one of the most common dental procedures. The surgery is quick and relatively painless, and the results can last for decades with proper care. (regular dental checkups, along with consistent brushing and flossing is recommended)

Here’s a step-by-step overview of what to expect during the dental implant procedure:

Step 1:Consultation

During your consultation, your dentist will assess your dental health and determine whether dental implants are the right option for you.

Your dentist will also take X-rays and 3D scans to assess the condition of your jaw bone and gums. Your dentist will then develop a dental implant treatment plan if you’re a good candidate for the implants.

Step 2: Surgery

In most cases, dental implant surgery is performed under local anesthesia. The surgery itself is usually quick, taking only one or two hours.

First, your dentist will make an incision in your gums to expose your jawbone. Afterward, the implant will be embedded in your jawbone, and the incision will be stitched.

Step 3 Osseointegration and Recovery Period

After your dental implant surgery, your implant will need to undergo a bone fusion process with your jaw bone, known as osseointegration. This can take several months.

You’ll need to follow your dentist’s instructions for caring for your implant during this time. You may need to eat soft foods and take extra care when brushing and flossing around the area during the healing period.

Step 4: Final Restoration

Once your dental implants have healed, you’ll return to the dentist to have your final restoration or implant abutment placed. Depending on how many teeth you’re replacing, this may be a dental crown, bridge, or denture.

While the dental implant procedure may take months from start to finish, the implant can last for decades with proper care. So take care of it and your oral health in general.

What is a full mouth reconstruction?2021-10-11T03:51:19+00:00

A full mouth reconstruction or as it is also known a full mouth restoration. Is where a dentist rebuilds and restores missing or lost teeth.

Which all will depend on how severely your teeth are damaged, and how much restoration or reconstruction is needed.

What are some of the mouth reconstruction / restorative methods used?2021-10-11T03:54:06+00:00

What are dental implants2021-10-11T03:56:05+00:00

A dental implant is a piece of titanium or other materials that looks like a screw. It is put into the jaw where the missing tooth’s roots were. Over time, bone grows around the implant, which helps to hold it in place.

An artificial tooth, or crown, is then attached to the metal to fill in the gap left by the missing tooth. The crown is specially made to look like the other teeth in size, shape, and colour.

Dental implants can also be used to hold a dental bridge or dentures in place.

When might a dental implant be needed?2021-10-11T04:04:13+00:00

If you have one or more missing teeth, a dental implant might be a suitable option if, because they can replace your current tooth. If you have multiple teeth in a row missing a dental implant along with a bridge can be used.

  • have a fully grown, healthy jawbone
  • don’t have gum disease
  • don’t have conditions that affect bone healing

Your dentist will discuss with you whether a dental implant procedure is suitable for you.
